The Cougar women's soccer team ended a three-game losing streak in strong fashion with an 11-3 victory over Presentation College.
In all, six Cougars scored on the day and all 22 players saw time against the Saints. The Cougars managed a whopping 35 shots, 16 on goal.
Forward Amber O'Connor scored a hat trick, while Nina Jarnot, Leah Parker, freshman Molly Olson notched their first goals of the year. Defender Liz Vold scored the first tally of her career at UMM. In addition, O'Connor picked up one assist (on Jarnot's first goal. Katie Kestner assisted Jarnot's second goal, and Heidi Ivers assisted on Olson's mark.
Head coach Dan Magner was pleased with the performance, especially with the time it afforded to extend playing time. "It's always nice to score some goals and see some people in different positions. But I'm very happy about getting 22 players into the game."
Presentation battled despite having only 11 players (no subs).
The goal output against Presentation nearly doubled the Cougars' goals scored in the previous five games combined. "My hope is that scoring some goals and moving the ball well, like we did today, will build some confidence," Magner said.
The Cougar men and women take the field again this Friday (at Bethany Lutheran) and Saturday (at Martin Luther) before coming home for a set of games the following weekend.
