On a day not fit for man nor beast--and certainly not golf--62 ball strikers circled the links at the Alexandria Golf Club for the first of two days in the annual UMAC tournament.
The rain and cold and wind were constant through a challenging round that witnessed mixed reactions to the inclement conditions. Some golfers said it helped them focus their game, while others said wet hands made grips and consistent striking a challenge. Everyone agreed, however, that the greens were soft.
The women's team has three golfers in the top 10 currently, and they hold a 12 stroke lead over Northwestern in pursuit of the team title.
Play begins tomorrow (Saturday, 10/3) at 10 a.m. The weather forecast shows continuing low temperatures in the high 40s, but the rain could wane in the afternoon.
