Christian DeVries
Head Men's Soccer Coach
Christian DeVries enters his twelfth season as a coach for Cougar Soccer. The 2009 season marks his fourth year leading the men's side after a very successful eight years coaching the Cougar women.
DeVries' 2008 team went 18-4, winning the UMAC tournament, for the second year in a row, and nearly clinching an at-large NCAA bid for the division III tournament. Under his guidance, the Cougars produced the UMAC player of the year in 2009, plus the conference tournament MVP in 2008 and 2009. DeVries, himself, earned coach of the year honors in 2008.
During DeVries' tenure with the women, the Cougars proved to be successful at local, regional and national levels. In 2002 they finished third in the NSIC and Coach DeVries had one of the top ten most improved teams in collegiate soccer. In 2003, the Cougars switched to the UMAC and won the conference championship with a perfect 12-0 record before sweeping the end of season tournament.. They also led the nation in scoring at the NCAA Division II level.
Coach DeVries' teams have also been notable for their success in the classroom. In seven of his eight years with the women's team, they earned an NSCAA team academic aAward for a team grade point average over 3.0.
Coach DeVries is a graduate of Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo, where he earned dual bachelor's degrees in 1991 and a master's in 1993. As a student at Adams State, he ran cross-country and played soccer for the men's club team.
Coach DeVries began his coaching career in 1992 when he assisted in starting and coaching the women's soccer team at Adams State College. A year later he became the new team's head coach.
In 1994 he became the head women's soccer coach at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. His tenure at Missouri Valley College included: 1 All-American, 4 Academic All-Americans and #17 position in the NAIA national rankings.
Coach DeVries has completed his NSCAA Advanced National Badge, USSF "A" License and most recently his Brazilian "C" License. During the summer he is involved with Minnesota Youth Soccer as a coach and evaluator.
DeVries lives in Morris with his wife, Debra, and his three children: Mikaela, Brynn, and Macen.

Scott Turnbull
Assistant Men's Soccer Coach
Coach Turnbull serves as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams. His primary responsibilities include coaching goalkeepers, coordinating soccer recruitment efforts, and game coaching the men's reserve team.
Coach Turnbull graduate from UMM in 1999, where he played kicker on the football team, earning NSIC all-conference honors in 1998. During those same years, he worked as a student assistant to Coach DeVries on the women's side, helping to develop the talents of academic all-American goalkeeper Katie Riba.
When the men's team formed in 2006, Turnbull was helped recruit their first full team that went on to win the UMAC championship in 2007.
Coach Turnbull holds a diploma from the NSCAA National Goalkeeping organization, and is presently working toward his Manitoba "B" license for soccer coaching.
Originally from Brandon, Manitoba, Turnbull now lives in Morris with his wife Amber and her two children, Trey and Sydney.
