"Studying abroad will significantly enhance a liberal arts education." Jing Y. Chan
I became interested in ELTAP through conversations with other students who had studied abroad. I was born in Hong Kong and jumped at the chance to live and teach there for three months. I was attracted to ELTAP by the opportunity to learn more about the culture that I was born into through an affordable study abroad program.
I did not receive any funding to study abroad, but my loans and UMM scholarships were applicable for tuition and other costs.
I found ELTAP to be an amazing opportunity to connect with both students and teachers in Hong Kong on a very personal level. Through these interactions, I learned about the people of Hong Kong and their way of life. I am more grateful today for all that I have in life and feel lucky that I had the opportunity to learn this important life lesson through my experiences in Hong Kong.
Through ELTAP I learned a lot about myself, my culture, and my family's heritage. I gained a greater understanding of diversity and now have a greater appreciation of the differences among myself and those around me.
Studying abroad will significantly enhance a liberal arts education.
