Sullivan ScholarshipThis University of Minnesota scholarship provides an opportunity for U of M seniors to enrich their academic experience with a fifth year of undergraduate study in another country. The Sullivan Scholarship allows a student to study abroad for one academic year and will cover all or a portion of in-country educational expenses (tuition, fees, books, research costs, etc.), room and board, and round-trip transportation between the Twin Cities and the study site. Sullivan Scholarship applicants are expected to apply for other scholarships or grants for which they are eligible that could be applied toward any of the above expenses. Financial support from the Sullivan scholarship will supplement, but not duplicate, benefits from other such grants or scholarships. In other words, the total amount awarded from all sources combined my equal, but not exceed, the costs of tuition, fees, books, room and board, and round-trip transportation to the study site. A total of approximately $35,000 will be available university-wide for 2004-2005, and we expect to award 304 scholarships, depending on the budgets submitted and the quality of applications. The scholarship is intended to support credit-bearing and usually classroom-based study abroad that immerses the student in the host university, research institute, or other institution, as well as in the host culture.
