check-in 8:30-9:00 a.m.
Tuesday, October 18, 2005
UMM Student Center
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Topic
Persons with Cluster B Personality Disorders (Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic and Narcissistic) make up a large portion of the population who seek mental health treatment. This population includes those clients who are suicidal, self-injurious and/or likely to come into contact with the legal system. This workshop will give an overview of each of the disorders, diagnostic criteria and treatment planning that includes the principles and skills of DBT therapy. This workshop is not training for doing DBT therapy, but rather, an educational presentation for clinicians working with these populations.

Goals
· have a working understanding of how Cluster B personality disorders present in clinical settings · know the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for the Cluster B disorders and
how to make a differential diagnosis for each

· be able to develop a treatment plan for these disorders incorporating
DBT theory and behavioral skills

· have a working understanding about how the Cluster B disorders impact clients who have co-occuring chemical dependency issues

Presenters
Mary Kay May, MS LICSW, Clinical Program Specialist
Carol Merriman, MS LICSW, LPP, Clinical Program Specialist
Mary Kay and Carol are the clinical supervisors of Recovery Plus OP Residential CD treatment program and OP Mental Health Clinic specializing in DBT therapy. Both maintain a mental health caseload in addition to supervisory responsibilities. Both have had intensive training in Marsha Linehan’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Both speakers were involved in the development of the St. Cloud Hospital DBT program and serve as members of the DBT Core Team, the group that oversees program development and adherence to the DBT program model. Because Recovery Plus is a chemical dependency unit, both facilitators have a competency in chemical dependency and related family systems issues. The presenters supervise Chemical Dependency and DBT as companion programs.
