TOPIC
Grief is universal, but uniquely individual. Whether grief is experienced in one’s professional life or personal life the impact is potentially profound. Understanding the theories and tasks of grief work is helpful in transitions to emotional and spiritual health. Identifying the role of employers, employees and peers in the acknowledgement of grief and loss is essential for prevention of misunderstanding, burnout, and compassion fatigue and equally integral to retention and job satisfaction.
OBJECTIVES
- Share personal strategies for coping with grief and loss
- Describe the theories of grief and loss inclusive of life events
- Define disenfranchised and unsupported grief
- Define the task of grieving
- Identify the stressors of personal and professional grief in the workplace
- Explore expressions and recognition of grief by peers and supervisors
- Discuss communication strategies for those in grief-“what to say-what not to say”
PRESENTER
Personal and professional experience as a founder and administrator of a Medicare certified home care and hospice agency for 19 years has provided Lores Vlaminck (RN, BSN, MA) with professional and practical experience. Her prior clinical nursing experience includes acute, critical care and outpatient clinical services.
Lores earned her Master’s Degree in nursing education from Bethel University, St. Paul, MN graduating Sigma Theta Tau and has since completed the ELNEC (End of Life Nursing Education Curriculum) graduate level training for Palliative Care.
Lores blends her long-term practical experiences with her clinical background to create an educational session that reflects her passion for caregiving.
Cost
$80 includes 6.0 CEUs from the Minnesota Board of Social Work, lunch and refreshments
