Cougar Room, Student Center, University of Minnesota, Morris

TOPIC
There is an increasing need for the treatment of mental health disorders. New medications continue to flood the market and public awareness through the media. The number of individuals crying out for help is overwhelming, while the stigma associated with the diagnosis of mental illness persists. Understanding mental illness, in itself, offers hope to those who suffer. Understanding the medications that treat a specific diagnosis is essential for accurate treatment and patient compliance.
OBJECTIVES
After completion of this presentation, participants should be able to identify:
1. Common mental health diagnosis and their symptoms
2. Psychotropic medications used to treat mental health symptoms
3. Common side effects associated with psychotropic medication
4. Common side effect management techniques
