Consultative Committee Minutes
November 30, 2007

Present: Maria Brun Nancy Carpenter (XO), Donavon Cawley, Alex 
Clausen, Pam Gades, Maggie Larson, Margaret Kuchenreuther, Alex 
Murphy, Jeff Ratliff-Crain, Lynn Schulz, Jennifer Zych Herrmann

Absent:  Brad Deane (on leave), Judy Korn

Minutes Approval:  Minutes of the 10/12/2007 were approved without 
changes.

Election of Chair:  Margaret was elected as Chair.

Discussion of Upcoming Capital Development Initiatives:  Maddy 
Maxeiner joined the committee to discuss the next U of M Capital 
Campaign.  She discussed the timing of the campaign and major 
elements of the process.  She asked the committee to brainstorm ideas 
for investment and to discuss ideas for a faculty/staff giving 
program.  The committee will discuss these topics at a later meeting 
and invite Maddy back.

U of M Faculty Consultative Committee visit to UMM:  The committee 
discussed plans for hosting the U of M FCC on campus on Friday, 
December 7, 2007.  During their visit the FCC is scheduled to meet 
with faculty from UMM's Consultative Committee, the Chancellor and 
Dean, the chairs of Campus Assembly committees and the Division 
Chairs.

During this discussion, Nancy also suggested that UMM should invite 
Prof. Caroline Hayes, from the UM-TC Department of Mechanical 
Engineering, to campus in the near future.  She has recently begun a 
position as Legislative Liaison. We should also invite the newly 
appointed UM-TC Vice-Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education, 
Prof. Robert McMaster.

Finally, Nancy mentioned the discussion at the last Senate meeting of 
the revised liberal education requirements on the Twin Cities campus. 
They have been proactive in re-evaluating their liberal education 
requirements.  She feels that UMM needs to be similarly proactive.
