UMM Consultative Committee Meeting Date: 10-3-03 Members present: Joyce Amborn, Brenda Boever, Kevin Ely, Bart Finzel, Margaret Kuchenreuther, Michelle Page (Chair), Jeff Ratliff-Crain (XO), David Wuolu, Mary Zosel, Reginald Davis, Kt Schwaderer, Rebecca Webb Absent: Lee Korby U of M System Home Page: Last week a working draft of the letter regarding the elimination of the system-wide homepage was distributed. A call to please submit contact people for other campuses was made. Upcoming Visitor Schedule: Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Sandy Olson Loy will visit on October 31 to discuss Student Affairs restructuring, past and future. Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Jim Mootz has been invited to give an Admissions update. He is scheduled for Monday October 20. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean John Schwaller will be meeting with us on November 7 to discuss the Curricula for the Big Idea. Dean Schwaller and Chancellor Schuman will visit following November 21 regarding faculty salary issues John Ramsey (from ACE) might be sending us an email about campus governance. He will be visiting on Monday and Tuesday, October 20 and 21. Visitors: Chancellor Sam Schuman and Maddy Maxeiner. Schuman and Maxeiner were invited to discuss the Big Idea and the funds being used to finance the pilot program. They said the funds were from the Capital Campaign. Schuman and Maxeiner said they will be using some of the $515,000 from the Strategic Initiatives portion of the Campaign. They mentioned that there were 12 some donors who donated to this fund. Schuman further said that the majority of the Capital Campaign money was designated for specific purposes or areas. Schuman and Maxeiner then explained the complexities of donations and donor intent as it relates to the funds that will be used for funding the Big Idea pilot program. They mentioned that the Strategic Initiatives portion of the Capital Campaign funds was the only discretionary fund donated to in the Capital Campaign. Schuman noted that the donors for this fund wanted the chancellor to think of how he might best utilize these funds; he felt the Big Idea was what this money should be spent on. Budget: Chancellor Schuman also noted that he is thinking he may need to reconvene another Budget Task Force to deal with budget issues for Fiscal Year 04-05. He mentioned preferring a task force looking similar to the last.
