*"Present" counts are to be taken from the
current 2003-2005 catalog and "Proposed" counts from copy for the new
2005-2007 catalog. The "Net
Change" may reflect changes made earlier between catalogs.
**Includes required courses from other
disciplines.
***Does not include Directed Studies or Senior Honors Projects.
If individual course changes are part of an overall plan for change
within the discipline's curriculum,
please summarize the intent of the changes in the space below.
Note:
items 1-4 have already been approved by Campus Assembly.
1)
Changes to Chemistry Seminar course.
We are moving our two-semester, one-credit seminar course from the fall
and spring semesters of the studentŐs senior year up one semester, to the
spring of the studentŐs junior
year, followed by one semester in the senior year.
2)
Changes in course credits. We are
raising the number of credits (from 3 to 4) associated with Chem 2302 (Organic
Chemistry II), and concurrently reducing the number of credits (from 4 to 3)
for eight of our lecture-only advanced elective courses.
3)
Changes to the chemistry major. We
are now accepting Biol 4211, Biochemistry, as an acceptable elective course for
the chemistry major provided it is taken concurrently with the biochemistry lab
(4611).
4) Changes to the chemistry minor.
These changes reflect a greater breadth of exposure to the various
subfields of chemistry
Chem 2302 has been increased from 3 to 4 credits in order to give students more exposure to organic chemistry.
5) We are adding two lab courses in Synthesis and Inorganic Chemistry in order to increase the range of advanced lab offerings
6) We are offering Chem 3111s every other year instead of every year.

there any financial or staffing implications of this proposal? If so, explain.
