History Information: |
Graduating
seniors have been requesting such a course for several years. We are
encouraged by the popularity of Bettina Blake's mini-course in preparation
for the French Poetry Contest, but it is not sufficient training and may not
be completed for academic credit. |
|||
|
Assessment |
ASSESSMENT:
Students will complete unit quizzes and a final exam, all of which will have
an oral and written component. GOALS: Students will develop a careful focus
on incremental units of sound, and gain mastery of French morphology and the
relationship of sound to meaning. Both speaking competence and confidence
will improve. |
|||
|
Rationale for |
A
PHONETICS COURSE WILL PROVIDE AN ESSENTIAL FOUNDATION FOR IMPROVING FL SKILLS
IN GENERAL, BUT ESPECIALLY SPEAKING AND PRONUNCIATION SKILLS. RESEARCH
SUGGESTS THAT PHONETICS TRAINING IS ESPECIALLY BENEFICIAL TO STUDENTS WHO
STRUGGLE WITH FL. THESE STUDENTS WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO ENROLL IN 1XXX AND
FRENCH PHONETICS CONCURRENTLY. |
