Assessment |
Students
enrolled in composition will be evaluated on the quality and quantity of
compositions during the semester. Students composing shorter pieces for solos
and small ensembles will be expected to compose more pieces than students
composing longer works for large performance groups. Student
compositions will also be assessed on how effectively forms and devices are
utilized. Imaginative solutions to compositional challenges (for example,
transitions) will be analyzed for creative execution. |
|||
|
Rationale for |
THE
MUSIC DISCIPLINE CURRENTLY HAS STUDENTS INTERESTED IN HAVING COMPOSITION BE
THE AREA OF SPECIALIZATION. ALL MUSIC MAJORS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE SEVEN
ENROLLMENTS IN A COMBINATION OF INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE STUDIES, MUS 1200-1222
AND MUS 3200-3222. BY ADDING MUS 1223 AND MUS 3223 TO THE LIST OF
SPECIALIZATION AREAS, THE COMPOSITION STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO MAJOR IN MUSIC
WITH COMPOSITION AS THE AREA OF SPECIALIZATION. |
