Assessment
and Goals
:

Students must successfully work through a complete series of exercises in arranging music examples for various groupings of choral singers. A final project will require the students to complete an arrangment for sopranos, altos, tenor bass choir to be performed by UMM choir.

Rationale for
Changes or
Exceptions
:

COURSE WAS OFFERED PRIOR TO SEMESTER CHANGE, BUT WAS DROPPED BECAUSE OF INSTRUCTOR LOAD LIMITATIONS. THIS COURSE GIVES THE STUDENT THE BACKGROUND TO NOT ONLY CREATE CHORAL ARRANGEMENTS , BUT TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE STRUCTURE AND MAKEUP OF CHORAL WORKS. ON A PRACTICAL LEVEL, CHORAL DIRECTORS TODAY MUST NOT ONLY BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE STRUCTURE OF THE MUSIC THEY ARE DIRECTING, BUT THEY MUST BE ABLE TO MODIFY IT WHERE THE LIMITS OF THEIR PARTICULAR CHORAL ENSEMBLE MAY NOT ALLOW FOR SOME OF THE VOCAL RANGES OR TECHNICS DEMANDED BY A PARTICULAR PIECE OF MUSIC. THIS COURSE PREPARES THE DIRECTOR FOR THIS EXERCISE.
