Assessment |
Students
should demonstrate the ability to analyze literary texts in relation to the
contexts in which they were produced, and to discuss these relationships in
class. Students must also communicate this information in written formats
such as exams and papers, making effective use of text analysis and citation
of primary and secondary texts. |

Rationale for |
THIS
COURSE REPLACES SPAN 3301 AND 3302, MASTERPIECES OF LATIN AMERICAN LITERATURE
I AND II. IT IS DESIGNED AS AN INTRODUCTORY SURVEY OF LATIN AMERICAN
LITERATURE AND PREPARES STUDENTS FOR MORE FOCUSED SEMINARS AT THE 36XX LEVEL.
MASTERPIECES WAS REDUCED TO ONE COURSE TO ALLOW FOR MORE CHOICE AND
FLEXIBILITY AT THE SEMINAR LEVEL; STUDENTS PREVIOUSLY HAD FOUR REQUIRED
COURSES AND ONLY ONE ELECTIVE TO CHOOSE IN THE COURSE OF THE MAJOR. THE TITLE
WAS MODIFIED TO MORE ACCURATELY REFLECT THE GOALS AND PHILOSOPHY OF THE
COURSE AND THE SPANISH DISCIPLINE, WHICH IS NOT LIMITED ONLY TO TRADITIONAL
CONCEPTIONS OF CANONICAL WORKS OF LITERATURE CONSIDERED INDEPENDENTLY OF THE
DIVERSE CONTEXTS IN WHICH THEY ARE PRODUCED. |
