Assessment: Students will be expected to complete daily reading assignments and participate in class discussions of the material. There will be two in-class exams, periodic journal submissions, a research paper and an in-class group presentation. Goals: Students should demonstrate the ability to analyze literary texts, using the text as well as the aesthetic, political, historical, and philosophical context in which the work was produced.

OUR CURRENT PROGRAM STRUCTURE INCLUDES BROAD COVERAGE OF THE 19TH CENTURY IN PENINSULAR SPANISH LITERATURE. THIS COURSE PROVIDES IN-DEPTH COVERAGE OF A KEY MOMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPANISH LITERATURE AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO WIDER POLITICAL, SOCIOLOGICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL TRENDS OF THE PERIOD.
