Assessment: Students will be expected to complete daily reading assignments and participate in class discussions of the materials. There will be two in-class exams, periodic journal submissions, a research paper and an in-class group presentation. Goals: Students should demonstrate the ability to analyze literary texts, using the text as well as the aesthetic, political, historical, and philosophical context in which the work was produced.

OUR CURRENT PROGRAM STRUCTURE INCLUDES BROAD COVERAGE OF PENINSULAR SPANISH LITERATURE. THIS COURSE PROVIDES IN-DEPTH COVERAGE OF A KEY TOPIC IN SPANISH LITERATURE AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO WIDER HISTORICAL, POLITICAL, SOCIOLOGICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL TRENDS OF THE PERIOD. IT ALSO ALLOWS FOR A MORE COMPLETE COVERAGE OF INDIVIDUAL AUTHORS, WHO, AS IS OFTEN THE CASE IN BROADER SURVEY COURSES, ARE NOT ALWAYS FAIRLY REPRESENTED BY ONE TEXT
