Students
assist teachers of English in countries where English is not the primary
language. Cultural and school experiences are linked to a major area of
study. Students are encouraged to consult with their adviser regarding how
this course might fit within their major. Assignments require students to
demonstrate how the ELTAP experience connects to the content major. |

Assessment and
Goals: |
ASSESSMENT:
ELTAP assistants are evaluated on the quality of their service to the
host school, their assistance to students and teachers, and the quality of
papers submitted in response to program requirements. Granting of credit and
a grade on an S-N scale is based on review of student work and results of
observations by host school faculty and interaction with and/or observation
by ELTAP faculty. GOAL:
To offer upper division undergraduate students the opportunity to link
an ELTAP study abroad experience with their degree program and/or chosen
discipline major. |
|
ELTAP
HAS SERVED OVER 300 LOWER AND UPPER DIVISION STUDENTS SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN
1992. AS A LOWER DIVISION COURSE, FOR STUDENTS IN THEIR FIRST YEARS OF
COLLEGE, THIS EXPERIENCE HAS OFTEN HAD A SIGNIFICANT INFLUENCE ON THEIR
COLLEGIATE GOALS AND CHOICE OF MAJOR OR AREA OF CONCENTRATION FOR GRADUATION.
UPPER
DIVISION ELTAP STUDENTS, WHO ARE WELL INTO THEIR DEGREE PROGRAM, HAVE NOT HAD
AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT THIS INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR CHOSEN
MAJOR OR AREAS OF CONCENTRATION. THIS PROPOSAL IS DESIGNED TO OFFER
UPPER DIVISION STUDENTS A MEANS OF INTEGRATING AN ELTAP EXPERIENCE INTO THEIR
MAJORS OR AREAS OF CONCENTRATION BY FULFILLING UPPER DIVISION ELECTIVE
REQUIREMENTS. |
