THIS IS A REQUIRED COURSE FOR THE PROPOSED ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES MAJOR. KNOWLEDGE OF BIOLOGY IS CONSIDERED CORE AND FUNDAMENTAL IN A STANDARD ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES CURRICULUM.  THIS COURSE PROVIDES A ONE-COURSE GATEWAY INTO UPPER DIVISION BIOLOGY COURSES NORMALLY REQUIRING THE BIOL 1111- 2101 SEQUENCE, AND THUS ALLOWS ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES STUDENTS A TARGETED MECHANISM FOR STUDYING BIOLOGY (RATHER THAN THE BROADER INTRODUCTION REQUIRED OF BIOLOGY MAJORS).
