action items for which detailed information is attached.

1. NEW MAJOR – Environmental Science
(ESci) Rationale: See attached proposal. New
Courses for New Major: ESci
3196‑Environmental
Science Field Camp. (Sci; 4 cr) Rationale: This is an elective course for
the proposed environmental science major, providing experience in
identification and solution of environmental science problems in an
environmental field, including hydrology, environmental geology or
environmental biology. ESci
4901‑Environmental
Science Senior Seminar I. (1 cr) Rationale: This is a required course,
providing a capstone experience for the proposed environmental science major. ESci
4902‑Environmental
Science Senior Seminar II. (1 cr) Rationale: This is a required course in the
proposed environmental science major.
It will include completion of research, assessing information or data
and formulating conclusions on the research topic selected, and presentations
of research projects. 2. OTHER
COURSE APPROVALS/CHANGES Division of Education WSS
1305-Beginning Taekwondo. (0.5 cr) Rationale: This proposal changes the
credits from 1 to 0.5. Division
of Science and Mathematics Biol 4172-Plant Systematics. (Sci-L; 4 cr) Rationale: This new course is proposed as a
component of the environmental science major electives. Phys 2301-Atmospheric
Physics. (Envt; 4 cr) Rationale: This new course is proposed in
order to contribute to environmental studies on campus. As a result, something else will not
be taught to make room for this.
Development of this course is supported by the STEP grant. Stat 4671-Statistical
Computing. (M/SR; 4 cr) Rationale: This new course is proposed to
serve UMM students who are interested in the computational aspects of
statistical data analysis. Interdisciplinary
Studies IS 1001-First-Year Seminar:
Human Diversity. (FYS; 2 cr) Rationale: This course change is proposed,
based on the recommendations of the First Year Experience Disappearing Task
Force, to remove the Jamboree from the First Year Seminar. IS 1037-Unleashing Your
Creativity: Words, Movement, and Images. (2 cr) Rationale: This new Continuing Education
course is proposed for the Summer Scholars Program. IS 1042-Psychology of
Excellence. (SS; 4 cr) Rationale: This new course is intended for
students who intend to become coaches. |
