Psy 2001 f,s. Research Methods in Psychology. (SS; 4 cr.; prereq 1051 and Stat 1601 or Stat 2601 or #; not offered Fall 2003).

Design, analysis, and interpretation of research in psychology. Course includes instruction on different research techniques and ethics in research. Students conduct, analyze, and evaluate empirical research and gain experience preparing APA-style research reports. Includes laboratory/discussion sessions.

 

II. Rationale (see instructions):

This is a new course (comparable to Psy 1203 under the quarter system). It will cover the research methods component of Psy 1101 and 1102. Psy 1101 and 1102 are being eliminated.

Students will gain understanding of various methods used in psychological research, including design of empirical studies, data analysis, interpretation of results, and communication of research findings.

 

How will you ASSESS the success of this course in achieving the GOALS described above?

 

Student achievement of goals will be assessed through their performance on examinations, assignments, and completion of an APA-style research report. Success of the course in achieving the stated goals will be assessed by monitoring performance of students in upper division psychology classes, especially the Empirical Investigations courses.
