CATALOG CHANGES
European Studies
Schwaller explained to the
committee that a coordinator for European Studies was named late and that is
why the changes are coming to CC now. There are no major changes, the program
is just being brought in line with changes from the other disciplines. Helsper
noted that Fren 3016 is listed twice and questioned if it should be Fren 3015
and 3016. Schwaller agreed this may be an error and will need to be clarified.
MOTION: (Korth,
Nellis) To accept the European Studies changes
VOTE: Motion
passed (6-0-0)
A member questioned if this
will go to Campus Assembly and Schwaller confirmed that these changes will have
to go to Campus Assembly and there will have to be another meeting for CA in
January. These changes need to go into the catalog now and if they are not
approved they can be pulled before the final deadline.
Schwaller explained that
these disciplines added a statement about the Study Abroad program in their
major description section.
MOTION: (Gooch,
Nellis) To approve for Spanish, French German and
Russian,
the addition of the Study Abroad information to the major description.
VOTE: Motion
passed (6-0-0)
Schwaller explained to CC
that he wanted to clarify his reference to the catalog being on-line at previous
meetings. He intended to imply that students increasingly rely on the on-line
catalog. However, because of legal, contractual issues UMM will continue to
have a printed catalog and his meaning was misunderstood.
A member questioned if
previous version of our catalog can be viewed on the web along with the current
catalog. Helsper explained that the previous catalogs are on the web and can be
accessed through the Dean’s website. A member stated that he would
advocate for eliminating the paper copy of the catalog because the portions to
keep track of changes are small and the information could be organized
differently. Schwaller explained that even though there will be less and less
reliance on the printed catalog it couldn’t be eliminated. A member also
expressed concern that going away from the printed catalog would create an
influx of revisions to the catalog because they would be easier to fix.
OTHER BUSINESS
Schwaller also mentioned
to CC that a recommendation from the Assessment of Student Learning committee
will be coming to CC in regards to gen ed requirements.
The meeting for November
27th is cancelled.
Meeting adjourned 8:25
a.m.
