2002-2003 CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING # 12

Present: John
Schwaller, Mike Korth, Jenny Nellis, Jooinn Lee, Mary Elizabeth Bezanson, Tom
Johnson, Van Gooch, Blake Auler-Murphy, Laura Burbank, Dorothy DeJager, and
Nancy Helsper.
Absent: Judy
Kuechle, Chris DeVries, Amanda Johnson, David Bohlander, Chris Pifer, and
Danielle Stuard, Ruth Thielke, and Clare Strand.
Schwaller asked for a
motion to approve the minutes from January 15, 2003.

NEW BUSINESS:
Schwaller has been asked
by MCSA to have CC look into class meetings outside of the scheduled class time
that students be required to attend. This committee has discussed this issue
previously. Korth indicated that CC did discuss this issue two years ago and
around April 2001 CC adopted a motion that additional meetings outside of the
regular scheduled class time be listed in the class schedule however, this
never happened. DeJager explained that the Scholastic Committee also discussed
this issue and took action that went to campus assembly. She will have this
information available for the next CC meeting.
A member questioned if it
was sufficient to note the additional meeting times in the syllabus and
Schwaller responded that this was not a sufficient way to inform the students.
Discussion among the members raised issues that there are several courses that
have meetings outside of the scheduled time and Schwaller will ask Jeri Mullin
in the registrar’s office if the web version of the class schedule will
accommodate the additional information.
Schwaller stated that the
Dean’s office will review the Campus Assembly notes from Spring 01’
and if there is no campus wide action we will take our motion back to Campus
Assembly. It appears that this information does need to be in the class
schedule and he will accept either specific meeting times or a general statement
that there will be additional meetings outside of the regular scheduled time.
Schwaller introduced two
new students on CC replacing David Bohlander and Chris Pifer. The new students
are Blake Auler-Murphy and Laura Burbank.
