suggested to change the rationale to state that the credit change brings these
courses in line with the other studio art courses and remove the statement that
current credits put students over the financial aid limit.

(Bezanson, Black) To approve Studio Art catalog
changes as amended.
DISCUSSION:
A member questioned why there was no Form A for Studio Art. Nellis stated she

Nellis presented Form A and B for English noting changes for
the topics courses. A member pointed out that there was a new cluster heading.
A member noted that the discipline had been contacted and Engl 3165, 3166 and
3281 grading options should be changed to student option. Nellis explained that
the course revisions all reflect a change in faculty in the English discipline.
There were several questions about numbers on Form A. It is unclear to CC what
English is doing when looking at their Form A. A member also pointed out that
it was decided by CC that cluster headings should come to CC for review and
this is not the case with English.
MOTION: To send English back to the
discipline for clarification including a completed Form A and inclusion of
cluster headings for CC to review.
DISCUSSION:
A member asked if Engl 2106, which is being offered Spring 2005, could be approved provisionally to allow

conflict with Scholastic Committee’s policy on placement exams. Schwaller indicated that sentence would be
held in abeyance until clarification with the Scholastic Committee.
MOTION: To
approve French catalog changes with the exception of the placement exam
statement on Form B
and as amended.
DISCUSSION:
A member noted that Fren 3025, 3043 and 3044 will be set up
with only one component. A member questioned the statement in Fren 2011 prereq

member also questioned the count on Form A.

Nellis presented Form A and B for German noting changes due to the retirement
of one faculty member. A member noted an editorial change that Ger 4995 should
be Ger 4901. The extra component will also be corrected. A member asked for clarification regarding
components. It was explained that multiple components apply to courses that
have labs, the first component would be the lecture and the second would be the

suggested adding the associated languages to the catalog and Schwaller indicate
that it is already being done and they will be listed in the new catalog.
MOTION:
(Hinds, Bezanson) To approve Spanish catalog changes.
DISCUSSION:
A member noted the common title of Conversation and
Composition among disciplines and that this may cause some confusion. Nellis
stated she understood the concern and this is being worked on and is changing
slowly. A member asked if the addition of the fifteen upper level Spanish
courses will impact the number of 1xxx level courses being taught. Nellis
stated that it would not as many students are coming to UMM with more and more
experience in Spanish. Over the last years they have made great strides in
better placement of students and are finding they are placing in 2xxx and 3xxx
level courses. A member stated that the new number of 1xxx level courses is
actually working better. A member noted there are also more alternative
languages available that are taking the pressure off of Spanish.

SPEECH:
Nellis presented Form A and B for Speech noting that a new
hybrid course is being offered. The changes in requirements for Teacher
preparation have been long in coming and the new course should make things
easier. Spch 1042 that is replacing Spch 1052 is designed for the Sports Management/Teacher Ed
students and is designed as a half semester course. Bezanson noted that this
will also fit well with Management and Psychology 2 credit courses. One
editorial change is Spch 3221 should be Spch 3331. A member asked why so many courses are A-F only
noting that more and more courses are A-F only and in the past this was
discouraged. There was discussion among the members about the A-F/S-N grading options
it was agreed that CC would look at courses with A-F only grading options at a
later time.
