AGENDA FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING COMMITTEE MEETING
At the meeting, we wish to accomplish two tasks:
1) Receive your feedback on our discussion and reach a consensus about our goals.
2) Set up our subcommittee structure.
With respect to goals for the year, we would like to:
1) Complete Assessment Plans
With the exception of the writing, abstract and historical perspectives component, we need to obtain plans for each of the other GER components as well as the common course.
2) Visit with each academic unit, offer help in developing assessment instruments and facilitate the implementation of assessment.
3) Publicize the Assessment Committee
Clarify the purpose of the committee as one of assessing student learning not necessary evaluating teaching.
Clarify the status of the committee as a faculty not an administrative committee.
Explain how the committee can help in the assessment process.
4) Prepare for NCA visit by:
providing enough publicity and talk about assessment that individual faculty will be able to knowledgeably respond to NCA queries about what UMM is doing in this regard.
5) Provide and receive contact from other institutions regarding assessment.
We would like to accomplish these goals through three subcommittees:
Unit Assessment Sub-committee (Facilitates discipline and co-curricular program assessment processes; meets individually with each unit.)
Joint Sub-committee (with Curriculum Committee) for Assessment of General Education
Promotion and Assessment of Assessment Sub-committee
For Fall Semester, we would like the subcommittees to work on their tasks and report on their progress at the second committee-as-a-whole meeting on November 12. At the third and final meeting of the semester, December 10 we like to have a discussion of sub-committee reports and consider what work we will do in the Spring Semester.
A detailed description of the responsibilities of each sub-committee follow:
Unit Assessment Sub-committee
