Learning Goals for Majors

  1. Students develop a historical and theoretical understanding of the three areas of Communication, Media, and Rhetoric.
  2. Students use a variety of assigned theoretical approaches appropriate to these three areas to describe and evaluate assigned or chosen discourse.
  3. Students demonstrate advanced mastery of a variety of ways to construct and send messages.


Assessment measures:

a)     direct measures—during the senior year, associated with the capstone experience,  we collect and review a portfolio of student writings

b)    indirect measures—student surveys are from seniors at the completion of the degree  (to provide information regarding “overall effectiveness”/ student satisfaction)


Discussion of findings:

After data are collected and analyzed, we will write a report.
