University of Minnesota, Morris Campus Resources & Planning Committee Minutes February 9, 1999 Members present: Lowell Rasmussen, Ray Sibul, Brenda Boever, Don Kenning, Nat Hart, Andy Lopez, Jason Anderson, Tom Johnson, Karen Fischer, Maddy Maxeiner, Rod Oto. Guests: Heidi Olson, Michelle Anderson, Reed LeBeau, Michael Kuykindinn, LeAnn Perius, Mike Korth, Chris Wenner, Gary McGrath, Cathleen Brannen, Sam Schuman. Andy Lopez recommended the following editorial corrections to the Three Year Plan, which, since they are clarifying in nature and do not reflect substantive changes, will hopefully not prevent approval by the Campus Assembly when the document returns for action spring quarter. 1. A "strategic goals" heading will be inserted to differentiate that section from the preamble. 2. The following explanatory phrase will be added: "For specific yearly objectives related to this plan, please refer to UMM's annual compact." The CRPC supported these editorial improvements. The minutes of the 1/26/99 meeting were approved as distributed. Concerning the capital request, the committee was informed that Jeri Mullin, Andy Lopez, Lowell Rasmussen, Tom Johnson and Jason Anderson had met to consider swing space issues. The group found that a staggered renovation of Old Science will not yield sufficient swing space. It will be renovated in stages to yield some space, but Community Service swing space will be necessary, too. The request for funds for the final stages of renovation in Community Service will be made in 2004 with construction to begin that June if funding is received. Sam Schuman asked if specific plans were in place governing who moves where and when (based on the order of renovations) so there will be no sense of anyone being treated unfairly during construction. Rasmussen replied that Science/Math personnel are developing plans to minimize movement and those who will have to shift are aware of the need to do so and why. Lopez noted that primarily classes, not labs, will move. Ray Sibul asked about the certainty of the 2001 projected plans and Rasmussen said the projections are valid if funding is received. Chris Wenner wondered how disruptive renovation will be to classroom activity. Rasmussen acknowledged that there will be unavoidable noise, especially in areas kept open due to fire codes. Lopez reiterated that labs and not classes will be the primary occupants of areas close to renovation. Maddy Maxeiner asked what the Physical Plan addition in 2002 consisted of and Rasmussen replied a brick facade and landscaping for the Transportation building area. Lopez wondered why there were requests for areas that are supposed to be self-supporting (residences). Rasmussen explained that the request was for work on the LaFave house, not dorms. The CRPC approved the Capital Request. Lopez ended the meeting with an update on the NCA5c subcommittee which is slowly making process. Chris Wenner has joined and Jim Togeas is advising but more members are still needed. The CRPC will meet again on March 9, 1999 at 2 pm in the Behmler Conference Room.
