Appendix: Public honors college statement:

Note: The CRPC has excised the term ‘honors college’ from the proposed new mission statement. This excision is not meant as a statement about the appropriateness or inappropriateness of the label for the University of Minnesota, Morris. Rather, it comes from a sense that the term has not established sufficient community consensus.

Our recommendation is that the revised mission statement be formally adopted as it stands above, and that campus assembly return to the ‘honors college’ label deliberately at a later date. Deliberation should certainly include consulting the report from the public honors discussion group, consulting with the principals in the brand marketing initiative, consulting with admissions about the projected attractiveness of such a label, exploring whether the label is embraced at the system-wide level, and exploring whether state-sanction for the label is possible.
