Faculty
and Staff Giving Program
Carla
Riley reported that every year the annual giving program seeks support from
alumni and friends. Additionally,
every year we partner with the University of Minnesota Foundation on several
projects, customized for UMM. Our
telemarketing needs are also done through the Foundation office in the Twin
Cities. The dollars raised
are used in a variety of ways.
Overall, UMM giving is up 9% in gifts and 20% in dollars. Our findings show that once
people are contacted via the phone, they go online and make their gift. A faculty/staff giving
program is the logical next step.
This would be a positive way to further engage people who work at UMM
and are here on a day-to-day basis.
During the last campaign, faculty and staff donated three million
dollars of a six million dollar goal.
We have started a senior legacy project and senior banquet to encourage
new graduates to contribute.
We are also looking at using technology to better engage alums with
current students for resources regarding internships, jobs, etc.
We are
looking for feedback regarding the proposal. Our recommendation is to execute a UMM faculty/staff giving
program, while sustaining or affirming the giving we already have on
campus. Having a payroll deduction
available is a great option.
There are already some broad categories for ideas like scholarships,
green initiatives and student support.
Dave
Swenson made a motion to support the proposed faculty/staff giving program,
second by Michelle Page. Motion
carries.
