The Office of Community Engagement seeks to engage members of the broader community and University of Minnesota, Morris students, faculty, and staff in meaningful, reciprocal course-based and co-curricular partnerships.
These partnerships will:
- meet identified community needs;
- advance the campus mission, learning outcomes, and key campus priorities;
- work toward more vibrant, just, and inclusive communities.
The Office of Community Engagement is comprised of the following programs
Community Service Program
The Office of Community Engagement assists individuals, residential life communities, and student organizations in creating and sustaining partnerships with community agencies that build professional and civic skills and meet community needs. These may include short-term, ongoing, or long-term volunteer opportunities linking with our local community. We are also available to help students establish partnerships with regional, state, national, or international communities. Service-Learning Program
The Office of Community Engagement assists faculty and community partners in planning course-based projects that use service-learning as pedagogy to meet both course goals and community needs. Tutoring, Reading, and Enabling Children (TREC)
The University of Minnesota, Morris TREC program places students in paid and volunteer positions working with area school districts and community organizations. TREC seeks to promote literacy in school-aged children and throughout local communities to provide meaningful tutoring and mentoring experiences. Our Partners
The Office of Community Engagement works closely with the Center for Small Towns, a community outreach program that serves as a point-of-entry for small towns to the resources of the University of Minnesota.
Additionally, many local and regional schools, government agencies, non-profit and community organizations, and small, family-owned businesses are or have been involved long and short-term partnerships with our office.
