UMM's Commission on Women
Mission Statement and Goals
As directed by the University of Minnesota's 1988 Minnesota Plan II, the Commission on Women at the University of Minnesota, Morris seeks
to strengthen the entire community by enriching the working and learning
environments of women.
Our goals:
To promote dialogue on issues relevant to women
To challenge norms, values and attitudes that demean or devalue women
while supporting constuctive change
To encourage faculty, staff, students, and administration to provide
humane working and learning environments
To promote fair treatment of women in academic and campus life including
such areas as instruction, hiring, mentoring, evaluation, promotion and
institutional awards or recognition
To recognize and celebrate UMM women's accomplishments and contributions

We pursue these goals by:
- enhancing and supporting the women's studies major
- holding regular advisory board meetings and summarizing happenings to the campus community
- representing the Commission on Women in campus governance to include Campus Resources and Planning Committee, Student Services Committee,
Curriculum Committee, Scholastic Committee and critical search/review committees
- co-sponsoring speakers and supporting Women's Week
- awarding grant monies according to established criteria and guidelines
- coordinating regular seminars as part of on-going educational/professional development
- collaborating with student organizations that support women's issues such as the Women's Resource Center (WRC) and Women of Color
Association(WOCA).
