SPSS

SPSS is a statistical analysis program. SPSS is installed on some of the computers in Imholte and Computing Services.

Getting Started

To start the program, click on the start button in the lower left, go to Programs, and then find the SPSS program. When SPSS starts, two windows will come up. The first window will prompt you as to what you want to do:
  1. Run the Tutorial
  2. Type in Data (Create a new query)
  3. Run an existing query
  4. Create new query with Database Capture Wizard
  5. Open an existing file
You must make your selection in the first window before you will be able to move on.

Saving your file

To save your file, click on the File menu, and select the Save option. If you have modified the file and want to change the name of the file that you are saving, choose the Save As option.

Printing

To print your file, click on the File menu, and select the Print option. To change the printer or some of its options, click the setup button. Then click OK.

Exiting SPSS

To close the program, click on the File menu, and select the Exit option at the bottom. If you haven't saved your work, or have made some modifications, it will ask you if you want to save or not.

More Help

The internal SPSS help is quite extensive. Select the Help menu and then select what you need from the pop-up menu. Its tutorial may be of some assistance.
