Welcome to Computing Services at UMM!

Throughout your academic career, we're committed to bringing you the kind of assistance and technological support you can only find on a small, residential college campus.

Help Desk
The Computing Services Help Desk serves as your first point of contact for computing support at UMM. Staffed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, by full-time personnel and student consultants, the Help Desk is located in the Computing Services Office, Room 10, Behmler Hall. We're also available via phone at (320) 589-6054 or via e-mail at ummhelp@morris.umn.edu.

Purchasing a computer
Need a computer? The University of Minnesota has a program, known as UMart that allows UMM students, staff and faculty to purchase computer hardware and software at discounted prices. Vendors include Apple and Dell. Visit http://umart.umn.edu for current pricing information.

Handouts, Manuals, Workshops
Need to learn how to do something? Many handouts, guides, and other materials are available in the Computing Services section of the UMM Web site, http://www.morris.umn.edu/cs/. We also schedule free seminars and workshops every semester, open to all members of the campus community. For more information, visit our training page at http://www.morris.umn.edu/cs/training.

E-mail and your Online Calendar
All UMM students receive a free UMM e-mail address featuring the .morris.umn.edu domain. Accounts are distributed during orientation; you may change your password when you initialize your account. Please be aware that your UMM e-mail account will be used for official University communication; you are responsible for checking it regularly.

All UMM students also receive free online calendaring via UMCal. The program is also used by faculty and staff, making it a powerful tool for scheduling academic, social, and governance meetings. To manage both your UMCal and your e-mail, we recommend MyUMM, the UMM Portal.

MyUMM Portal
MyUMM is your secure, customizable University of Minnesota Morris portal home page. It lets you check e-mail, access course Web sites, update your UMCal calendar, access online registration and your academic records, store files using NetFiles, access grades, read news, and more. To access the MyUMM Portal, please visit http://www.morris.umn.edu/myUMM.

ResNet, the dormitory network
Every student living on campus has free access to ResNet, UMM's full-service, rapid-fire residence hall network with access to the Internet and campus servers. But before you can fire up your desktop or laptop computer and start surfing, you'll need to get authorized. To request access to Resnet, just fill out this Connection Form.

What about Wireless?
UMM has wireless hubs in key locations across campus...and we're always adding more! For information on specific locations and access, please visit http://www.morris.umn.edu/wireless.

Dialing in from Off Campus
The phone number for dial-up access is (320) 589-4526. This number has a two-hour time limit with speeds up to 56 kbps. You'll find access instructions here. Modems are not accessible from on-campus phones; use wireless or ResNet instead.

Computing Labs
Computing Services maintains open labs across campus. Hours can be found at www.morris.umn.edu/cs/labs.

Printing
Laser printers are available in all Computing Services labs. Laser printing is five cents per page, using a Cougar Cash card or your U Card. Color printing is available in the Briggs Library.
