Tera Term pro

Tera Term Pro is the supported telnet software for Windows at UMM. It is installed on all the PCs in the Computing Services labs. Tera Term Pro can be used to connect to cda or www, library systems, or other off-campus systems.

To open Tera Term Pro:

Double click on the Tera Term Pro icon on the desktop. This will bring up the "New connection" window. If you click on the down arrow in the upper right of this window, you will see the list of servers. Select the one of your choice and click "OK". If the server you want to log into isn't in the list, you can type it in the window. You can then log in with your username and password.

To add a server to the list:

Open the Setup menu and choose TCP/IP. Enter the server name in the top box and click the "Add" button. This will add your server to the list. You can organize the server order with the "Up", "Remove", and "Down" buttons. You must first select a server to change its order.

Printing:

If you choose the Print option from the File menu, Tera Term Pro will print ONLY what is currently being displayed in the Tera Term Pro window. If you are viewing something that is larger than the current window, not all of it will be printed.

Changing the window size:

If you want to be able to change the size of the Tera Term Pro window by clicking and dragging an edge, make sure the "Term size = win size" option is checked in the Terminal options under the Setup menu.

Enabling backspace:

To enable either the backspace and/or the delete keys, choose the appropriate option(s) in the Keyboard options under the Setup menu.

To exit Tera Term Pro:

You must be at the system prompt, for example <cda.morris.umn.edu> and then type the appropriate logout command. For our systems, that is the "exit" command.
