How to Access Word Pad

Under the Start menu, select Programs and then Accessories, then Word Pad. After you start Word Pad, a new document will be available for you to begin typing.

File Menu

You can create a new document with the New command.

Accessing a Saved Document

If you have a document already created in Word Pad, you can access it by going under File and then Open.

Saving a Document

The Save option under the File menu allows you to save your document in a format that will be recognized by other programs such as Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect or Microsoft Works.

Printing a Document

The Print option under the File menu will send a print job to the printer, while the Print Preview command will display the document on the screen.

Page Setup

allows you to select options related to printing and formatting your document, including margins and page orientation.

The Send option allows you to send your document to an email address.

Exit will close the Word Pad application.

Edit Menu

The menu contains the usual options of Cut, Copy, Clear, Select All, Find, Replace and Paste Special which gives you more options of pasting your text.

View Menu

The View option has the choices of Tool bar, Format Bar, Ruler and Status Bar. These can be selected to display the various bars.

Options

When selecting Options, a window will pop up with the tabs: Options, Text, Rich Text, Word, Write and Embedded. Selecting the appropriate tab will allow you to make changes to the setup of the document.

Insert Menu

The Insert menu will allow you two options. One is to insert a date and time and the other is to insert an object.

Format Menu

The Format menu contains four tabs for changing the format of the document. These four options include: Font, Bullet Style, Paragraph and tabs
