Description: Amanda worked with Swift County 4-H to help coordinate and run 4-H day camps for local youths of various ages. She was also responsible for press releases regarding the Swift County day camps. Those responsibilities included writing articles for local newspapers and taking photos at 4-H events. She also worked with Swift County’s 4-H Program Coordinator, Shelly Vergin, on a research project for the University of Minnesota Extension Services. Big-Stone County Food Assessment Intern

The goal of this project is to promote healthy eating and local foods in order to make fresh fruits and vegetables more available. Chippewa Watershed Project Associate
Joe works with the Chippewa Watershed Project out of the Chippewa Courthouse in Montevideo. As part of his job, he takes routine measurements of the biological diversity in many tributaries of the Chippewa River that flow through South Central Minnesota. When he monitors sites throughout the region, he also identifies benthic macro invertebrates from river samples; these samples analyzed for local frequency of insects. This research helps establish a benchmark for other agencies throughout Minnesota to use and compare with the results of their research efforts.
