Rural Minnesota and a Century of Change

Purpose
This symposium will bring together leaders from across Minnesota to examine, describe, and discuss the changes witnessed by small towns in rural Minnesota between 1900 and 2000.
Audience
K-12 education personnel; economic development specialists; city and county personnel such as planners, managers and council members; Extension educators; rural development organizations; and citizen action groups.
Sessions
Topics include population, demography, economics, politics, and change in general. The format of each session will be a presentation of 30 to 45 minutes followed by audience participation for questions and discussion. In each of the sessions the historical analysis will include a look to the future. The final session will bring together speakers from the day to discuss the future research needs of small towns.
