Each candidate will be making a public presentations during the visit: “Opportunities and Challenges for Liberal Arts Education in the 21st Century,” place and time to be announced.
The University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and
Dean. In order to assure full consideration, applications must be received by July 15, 2007. The new Vice Chancellor will assume duties as early as January 1, 2008.
A public liberal arts college of approximately 1800 students and 125 faculty, UMM was established as a baccalaureate-granting institution in 1960. Its original guiding
principles of selective admission, academic excellence, and controlled growth have not changed. The college is recognized for its distinctive mission and its excellent
faculty and student body. A charter member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, UMM is a solely undergraduate institution and, as an integral part of the
University of Minnesota, shares in its aspirations and its strengths. Situated on 130 tree-shaded acres, the campus is located in the small (5000) rural community of
Morris, on the edge of the lake region 160 miles west of Minneapolis.
The UMM student body is diverse and talented. The median ACT of incoming freshmen is 25 and about one third have graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school
class. Fifteen percent of the students are from underrepresented populations. The UMM faculty, an exceptional group of individuals from a broad spectrum of
backgrounds, cultures, and geographic locations, is dedicated to achieving excellence in both teaching and research. Fifty-three percent of the faculty members are
tenured and ninety-two percent hold a terminal degree.
As the chief academic officer of UMM, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean reports to the Chancellor and is the ranking administrator on campus in the
Chancellor's absence. Responsibilities include: working with chairpersons of the four academic divisions and other unit heads on the Morris campus, and with
administrators throughout the University of Minnesota system; allocating funds for instructional and support programs; making recommendations to the Chancellor on
personnel matters; promoting teaching and curriculum improvement, research, and outreach; and conducting general academic planning.
The person selected will receive faculty rank based on teaching and research and will be considered for tenure. Salary and compensation are competitive nationally.
Candidates for the position should possess the following qualifications:
An earned doctorate or recognized terminal degree
Eligible for appointment at the rank of full professor
Administrative experience as a line officer in an accredited college or university
<.li>A record of instruction, scholarship and professional achievement in higher education
