Seismographs Set Up In The Morris Area
MORRIS, Minn. (A.P.) -- Scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey expect to be in the Morris area through the weekend trying to record aftershocks following Wednesday's earthquake in western Minnesota.
The quake registered 5.0 on the Richter Scale and was felt in a 60,000 square mile area.
Aftershocks, or small tremors, normally occur up to two weeks after a main earthquake, but usually are so small they can only be detected by instruments.
The scientists from the survey's Colorado and Las Vegas offices arrived Thursday and set up seven seismographs.
They also were checking on reported damage, but said this was difficult because area residents had no insurance, thus would not be submitting claims.
