West Coast

Melissa Swenson (Loretto senior), Sara Campbell (Madison, WI senior), Alison Helm (St. Joseph Senior), Christina Edstrom (Austin Senior), and Steph Vlaminck (Minneota Senior) captured San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge at dusk.

New Prague sophomore Kim Simek enjoyed a ferry boat ride while visiting Seattle.

Sarah Lofgren, a junior from Thief River Falls, and Megan Mekoli (Blaine sophomore) posed with Professor Jennifer Goodnough at the San Diego Zoo. Chemistry students and faculty were in California attending the National American Chemical Society meeting.

In Megan's entry, taken by Andover sophomore Jenna Benson, you can see the hedge elephant.

Dan Schlatter (New Brighton junior) and Garett Lee (Maple Grove sophomore) hiked with the Geology Club in Canyonlands National Park, Utah.

Little Falls junior Richelle Maciej also visited Seattle and was photographed before the Space Needle by Seth Sweep, class of 2004.

Nine members of the Outdoor Club also traveled to the west coast to visit Salt Lake City.

East Coast

Professor Jess Larson photographed the Art Club in the heart of Times Square during their trip to New York City to take in the art scene.

Here they are visiting Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. That's Alicia Canfield (Blaine sophomore), Kira Goettsch (Minneapolis freshman), Chris Anderson (Alexandria senior), Stacy Gross (Blaine junior), Christina Meyer (St. Joseph junior), Ashley Sorenson (Amvoy junior), Nicole Soukup (Sleepy Eye junior), Bess Vlaisavljevich (Shoreview junor), Kyle Schwartz (New Ulm junior), Brianna Osseland (Stillwater senior), Jacquelyn Sullivan (Westwood, KS sophomore), Erica Belkholm (Braham sophomore), and Jessie France and Anne Meyer of the class of 2005.

They also visited the empire state building.

Megan Weisbrod, a sophomore from Stillwater, joined the group in the photo at right; you can see the sharply-tipped Chrysler Building behind her.

Brooklyn Park sophomore Joel Deuth, conducting mission outreach in South Carolina, visited Charleston's Fort Sumter.

Fort Sumter was the site of the first shots fired in the Civil War.

Cougars Natalie Kinsky (Woodbury junior), Cara Rudney (Morris sophomore) and Laura Smith (West Concord junior) visited Florida's Everglades, but the sign behind them only warns of alligator attacks. The alligators in the background are keeping their distance!

Out of competition. Journalist and former University Relations staffer Sue Dieter (right) and Director of Financial Aid Pam Engebretson (both alumni) proudly wore their UMM attire during a trip to Washington, D.C.

26 UMM Habitat for Humanity workers visited Albany, Georgia while half a dozen Mock Trial members competed in St. Petersburg, Florida.

International

Behold the camel that doesn't run from cougars! Sara Kloek (Stillwater senior) and Johanna Farmer (Spearfish, SD senior) showed off their school spirit at the Arabian Desert Extravaganza while attending the First Annual Women as Global Leaders Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The conference center was situated in front of the Gulf of Oman and the Burj al Arab, the world's only 7 star hotel.

Out of competition. Director of Computing Services David Loewi visited China and, of course, met someone who had attended the U and conducted research in Morris. No, not Chairman Mao!

The Biology Club sent seven members to Belize.

Just one more!

Out of competition...literally! Here's hoping the premiere swimming and diving team spent their spring break resting up after competing with 400 athletes at the Liberal Arts Challenge (LAC) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in February, the final event of their 5 1/2 month competition season. Pictured (starting back row, left to right) are Chandra Hutchens, Anne Sundby, Naomi Throngard, Jamie Luecke, Kristine Ertl (LAC medal winner!), Lauren Trapp (LAC medal winner!), Bree McCannon (LAC medal winner!), Megan McLennan, Danielle Thibodo, and Robin Moe.
