UMMers in Europe!

First prize goes to Maggie Alexander of Hastings who was constantly interrupted during her 'Mona and me' moment at the Louvre by Parisians and other strangers inquiring after acquaintances at UMM.

UMMers in southeast Asia!

Honorable mention! Here's Taylor Anderson of St. Paul and friends in Sri Lanka (near Candie), December 24. UMMers were thankful to learn of the safe return of members of our community who visited southeast Asian this holiday season.

Now that Nikki Schutte's parents have moved from Longview, TX to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she relishes rare opportunities to visit them. She reports that the tsunammi left the Kuala Lumpur Tower (tallest in southeast Asia) and the Petronas Twin Towers, viewable from her parents' veranda, untouched.

UMMers south of the border!

Great minds think alike! Alex Jarvis of St. Cloud posed in front of the great Mayan pyramid at Chichen-Itza in the Mexican Yucatan...

...while a guy who's not eligible to compete also posed in front of a mammoth structure with stairs!

Second prize goes to St. Paul senior Nick Wolner, photographed by his sister in Caracas, Venezuela in the "southern border of a great valley that holds the capital and over 5 million people."

UMMers in the US!

Honorable mention! Colleen Borgendale and her sister Laura performed in Watson, MN at a benefit for tsunami victims. Audience members and participants braved temperatures in the double-digits below zero to attend the event.

Honorable mention! Jackie (Thrasher) Koppe really loved her wedding gift from Judy Riley!

Another Second Prize goes to Daniel Moore for capturing these seven students (Kim Ukura, Freshman, Lino Lakes MN; Emily Loehr, Sophomore, Savage MN; Joe Basel, Freshman, Mankato MN; April Kummrow, Freshman, Morris MN; Mac Wilson, Junior, New Hope MN; Brittany White, Freshman, Bismark ND; and Ruth Olson, Freshman, New Ulm MN) who traveled to Washington, D.C. for the 55th Presidential Inauguration. They're sporting UMM College Republicans t-shirts with maroon and black buttons furnished by Chancellor Schuman.

Pagemaker's favorite. Josh Giefer of Maple Grove spent New Year's Day traveling sunny California and reports, "I figured that many people around here would like to see why it is important to earn a UMM degree. We'll be shopping for cars some day. Why not do it in style? Due to the higher income I'll earn as a college graduate, buying one of these babies should be no problem, right?" The Bentley, a 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish, runs about 250K.

UMMers in Hawaii!
What do musical instruments, fresh pineapple, and a famous celebrity have in common? According to Emily Thomas, all were a part of the University of Minnesota, Morris Concert Band's Hawaii Tour of 2005, January 8-14. After a joint collaboration with the Royal Hawaiian Band in Oahu, the UMM Concert Band performed at the Polynesian Cultural Center, then flew to Kauai for two more shows. The instrumentalists also visited Pearl Harbor, the USS Arizona Memorial, and Waimea Canyon. As any band member for details on the celebrity sighting.
