The Forty-first UMM Commencement Ceremony
at the University of Minnesota, Morris



Beautiful weather and a visit from Chancellor Sam Schuman's long-time friend, actor and author Peter Coyote, graced UMM's 41st Commencement ceremony on our campus mall, recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We hope you enjoy these photos* from our celebration!



In addition to providing the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance," the UMM Concert Band and Choir offered pre-ceremony entertainment.



The Iron Bull Singers honored all graduates of this campus which once served as an Indian boarding school. Native American graduates received blankets at a special ceremony Friday night (photo by Isaiah Brokenleg).



As family and friends gathered on campus...



...faculty, students and staff headed into HFA to line up for the procession.














Representing the Board of Regents was the Honorable John Frobenius(in red), posing with UMM Alumni Association president Carol Eckersen (right) and Maddy Maxeiner (left) of External Relations. Vice President Robert Jones also made the trek to the prairie; here he greets student speaker and Curtis H. Larson Award winner Amelia Chouravong and Sandy Olson-Loy of Student Affairs.



It falls to the quartet in gold (Nathan Hilfiker, David Robbin, Sara Kloek, Sarah Lofgren) to keep the procession orderly.



Who wouldn't smile? As the faculty processed, the students burst into applause. UMM has the highest proportion of teaching award winners of any University of Minnesota campus.



Thank you, Tara Salyards, for leading the singing of our National Anthem.


"Pull the string!"

Well, maybe not.

Amelia Chouravong encouraged her classmates to live fully in the present...



... and Peter Coyote stressed civic involvement and the fully engaged life.
