Homecoming 2000

A festive fall that included Sam Schuman's inauguration and our Founders Day celebration generated extra enthusiasm for a joyous and productive Homecoming Weekend October 6-8, 2000. Please enjoy these photos of the festivities and if you weren't able to make it this year, we missed you and we hope to see you another time!

Career Fair

Alumni Alumni

Nearly 50 alumni returned to campus to mentor students in thinking about future careers. Several alumni brought job descriptions with them and 'recruited' for their employers. Participants in this networking opportunity included Lois (Regnier) Conroy, Carol Eckersen, Debra Kielhold, Eric Bass...

The Campus

From outerwear to dorm windows to creative displays, the campus was appropriately festooned for the big weekend. Gay Hall carried the weekend's "Sign of the Times" theme throughout the decades.

Science Building Dedication

Our new Science Building is a dream come true, the result of years of effort by alumni, students, faculty, staff, and Minnesota's citizens and legislators. Dedication festivities included tours, demonstrations, and a Science and Math alumni reunion.

The Parade

Participants in UMM's Homecoming parade included student groups showing their support for local candidates like Torrey Westrom and Charlie Berg, our Homecoming royalty, area children, dorm floats, a candy-tossing chancellor, and the ever-popular Alumni Kazoo Band. This year's Homecoming theme, "A Sign of the Times," was manifested in many Sixties-flavored entries. Joey Grussing helped his dad provide security for the event. Nancy Schuman served as Grand Marshall, leaping into her convertible after sprinting from the Science Building dedication. More parade pictures are available through the link at the bottom of the page, including a shot of the newly-named Cougar mascot, "Pounce."

The Game

Fans and cheerleaders bundled up for a chilly contest between the Cougars and conference champs Northern State. The Cougs kept things entertaining with interceptions, an early score, and lots of thwarted drives as they held the Wolves scoreless for the entire second quarter. Go Cougars!
