INSIDE or OUTSIDE? On Saturday morning, University Relations personnel will receive a phone call determining whether Commencement will be held outside on the mall or inside in the P.E. Center. You will be able to find the information in this story about Commencement on the UMM homepage that will be updated shortly after the call is made.

The Big Day!

Speaker
Congressman Keith Ellison, who has represented Minnesota's 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since January, 2007, will address this year's graduating seniors. Congressman Ellison is the first African American from Minnesota to serve in the U.S. Congress and the first person of the Muslim faith to serve as a U.S. Congressman. Previously, Ellison served two terms as a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), from 2003-2007. Photo by Eric Miller for Reuters.

  • Student Honors and Awards Ceremony, 7 p.m., Edson Auditorium

  • Buffet lunch and division receptions 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Student Center
  • Students assemble approximately 1 hour before ceremony
  • Commencement ceremony, 2:00 p.m., Campus Mall (rain site PE Center)
  • Commencement reception in Oyate Hall follows ceremony

    UMM's 2008 Commencement will be Web cast beginning at 1:30 p.m. central standard time, thirty minutes before the 2:00 p.m. ceremony is scheduled to start.

  • Computer running Windows 98/XP/Vista or Macintosh running system OS 10.3 or greater
  • Internet access of at least 512kb/sec.

    Parking information
    All lots are open on Commencement Day, but handicapped zone restrictions will be enforced. Please call Campus Security at (320) 589-6000 if you need special transportation arrangements on campus. Click here for a campus map. North and central are the parking lots closest to the mall. South and east are the lots closest to the PE Center.

    Ceremony instructions
    There is no limitation on the number of guests but attendees are encouraged to consider bringing lawnchairs or blankets. Here are the instructions for graduating seniors 2008 (material opens in new/blank window). This Word doc contains instructions for faculty and other participants.
