Forty-ninth Commencement held May 12, 2012
Graduating seniors received bachelor of arts degrees during the 49th annual University of Minnesota, Morris Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Faculty, staff, family, and friends gathered on the mall to recognize the accomplishments of the graduates. Commencement Day began with a buffet lunch from 10 a.m. to noon in the Dining Hall. Division receptions were held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Commencement ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. on the campus mall.
The ceremony was also streamed live to Edson Auditorium in the Student Center, and KKOK 95.7 broadcasts the ceremony live.
For those unable to attend, University of Minnesota, Morris Media Services provided live web casts of the special day.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in Oyate Hall in the Student Center.
Commencement guests also enjoyed viewing the 2012 Senior Art Show in the Humanities Fine Arts Gallery before and after the ceremony.
Eric Kaler, the University of Minnesota’s 16th president, was this year’s commencement speaker. President Kaler earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science in 1982 and became one of the nation’s foremost experts on “complex fluids,” which are used in many applications, including drug delivery, the biotech industry, food processing, and the manufacturing of coatings and paints. Before coming “home” to Minnesota, Kaler served from 2007 to 2011 as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y. He was also Stony Brook’s vice president for Brookhaven National Laboratory affairs.
