Apply for Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only application needed to receive federal, state, or institutional financial aid at the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM). Complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, after completing the online FAFSA make sure it is signed electronically, click the “Submit” button and print the confirmation page.

The priority deadline to complete and submit the FAFSA for the University of Minnesota, Morris to the federal processor is March 1.

What the student/parent will need to complete the FAFSA:

  • U.S. Department of Education PIN number
  • Federal school code (UMM's code is 002389)
  • Social Security Number
  • Driver's license number, if you have one
  • W2 forms
  • Federal Income Tax return
  • Current bank statements and records of stocks, bonds, and other investments
  • Records of other untaxed income received, such as Social Security, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), welfare, or veterans benefits
  • Business or farm records, if applicable
  • Alien registration number, if you are not a U.S. citizen

How to apply for a U.S. Department of Education PIN number:

Student/Parent(s) go to the Department of Education's PIN Site (ED PIN) to sign up for the ED PIN. UMM recommends that student/parent apply for a PIN now. The students FAFSA will be processed faster by using the PIN to sign electronically rather than printing, signing and mailing the signature page.

What Students can do with their ED PIN:

  • Sign FAFSA on the Web electronically
  • View and print the Student Aid Report (SAR)
  • Make online corrections to your FAFSA
  • Electronically sign loan promissory note.
  • Reapply for student aid every year (Renewal FAFSA)
  • View information about federal loans and grants received

NOTE:  The Federal Student Aid PIN gives access to personal information and therefore should be kept PRIVATE.  Students/Parent(s) should keep their PIN in a safe place and never share PIN with anyone.

Making Corrections to a Student's Processed FAFSA :

UMM recommends using the online FAFSA on the Web to make corrections to a processed FAFSA. After making correction to a processed FAFSA make sure it is signed electronically, click the “Submit” button and print the confirmation page.

How to Reapply for Financial Aid

Students must reapply for financial aid annually by completing the Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive federal, state or institutional financial aid at the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM). Complete the online version of the Renewal FAFSA. After completing the Renewal FAFSA make sure it is signed electronically, click the “Submit” button and print the confirmation page.

The priority deadline to complete and submit the Renewal FAFSA for the University of Minnesota, Morris to the federal processor is March 1.
