The University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) suggests students research the scholarship opportunities listed below.

ACS Scholars Program
Deadline: March 1st annually
Requirements:

  • African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian.
  • Intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering.

AES Engineering Scholarships
You are not required to be taking engineering courses to be eligible.
Amount of award: $500.00


Abbott and Fenner Scholarship

Available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution between the ages of 16 and 30.


Adoption Option Committee, Inc.
Deadline: March 1st

To provide support and affirmation to birth parents, AOCI will be awarding scholarships to applicants who have chosen adoption and wish to pursue secondary and higher education during the upcoming academic year. The applicant must be enrolled at a certified institution of higher learning.


American Indian Education Foundation (AIEF) Scholarship

Army Emergency Relief Scholarships

AER is a private nonprofit organization incorporated in 1942 by the Secretary of War and the Army Chief of Staff. AER's sole mission is to help soldiers and their dependents. AER funds are made available to commanders having AER Sections to provide emergency financial assistance to soldiers - active & retired - and their dependents when there is a valid need.


The Asia Pacific Leadership Program
Deadline: February 15th annually, new application forms appear every October
Requirements:

  • Mature students currently in graduate school or soon to enter graduate school.

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation
  • Provides scholarships for college students who exhibit motivation, imagination, and exceptional performance in the science or engineering field of their major. To date, the foundation has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to 196 deserving students.

Audrey Erskine Scholarship - Pickup applications in the Financial Aid Office
Deadline: June 1st annually, new applications come out in January

Eligibility

  • Seniors and Juniors: preschool, elementary, secondary education.

Becas/Scholarships - for all students regardless of immigration status.

These scholarships do not require a social security number, legal residency, or citizenship in order to apply. As a general rule, if an application asks for your social security number and you do not have one yet, leave that space blank but still fill out and turn in the application. Contact each scholarship provider for applications and details about updated requirements and deadlines.


Big Sun Athletics Scholarship
Deadline: June 24

All student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport they participate in. The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post-secondary institution.

Brown and Caldwell Environmental Science Scholarships

Scholarships offered to undergraduates in their Junior year pursuing a field in environmental science. Minority scholarship application due March 1st, general scholarship due January 31st.


Bruce F. Vento Scholarship
Deadline: June 15

This scholarship is open to students from the 4th Congressional District in Minnesota enrolling in the final two years for a degree in science education. Priority is given to undergraduate students planning to pursue a career in classroom teaching.  


Cancer for College Scholarship

This scholarship is open to current and former cancer patients and amputees who are currently attending a four year accredited Univeristy

Ethel Curry Scholarship

Must be a student of Native American descent. The scholarship is available to students who are attending a Minnesota institution of higher education at the junior, senior or graduate level; possess a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher; have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); and have applied for assistance from the Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program. Evelyn Lenander Education Scholarship
Deadline: May 15th annually

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have been accepted into a program leading to a degree in elementary education.

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund
Deadline: Postmark deadline June 15th every year until 2030

Requirements:

  • Dependent children or spouses of persons who were killed or are permanently disabled as a direct result of the attacks on September 11th, 2001.

Ford/American Indian College Fund Corporate Scholars Program
Deadline: May 1st annually

Requirements:

  • Have achieved sophomore status and have declared a major in accounting; computer, electrical or mechanical engineering; finance; information systems; marketing or operations management.
  • Be American Indian, Alaska Native or Hawaii Native.

The Freedom Forum-NCAA Sports-Journalism Scholarship Program
Deadline: December 9th annually, (new applications are available in late August)

Requirements:

  • Only available to college juniors who have career goals in sports journalism and major in journalism or have experience in campus sports journalism.

Gates Millennium Scholars
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander American*, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest.

  • The fund supports and enhances Scholarship for American Indian. The fund supports and enhances Scholarship for American Indian Students at any U of M campus.

Glamour's Top 10 Women's Competition

Any woman who is CURRENTLY A FULL-TIME JUNIOR

The Gilman Scholarship
Deadline: September 20th annually, new applications are available in mid January

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant.

Hawkinson Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: March 15th annually, application available online.

Awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to peace and justice.

  • Applicants must be a resident of (or currently attending school in) Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.
  • Scholarship finalists must be available for an in-person interview in Minneapolis.
  • Scholarship recipients must attend an award ceremony in the fall of the year the scholarship is awarded.
  • Awards are announced by July 1

Heart Research Scholarship

Application deadline: November 15, 2009

Minnesota students who are graduating high school seniors, college freshman, sophomores and juniors with an interest in the health science are eligible. Applicants must be Minnesota residents and attending a Minnesota high school or college.


Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Scholarship

Application deadline: April 1, 2008
This $1000 scholarship is intended to assist undergraduate students attending a four-year college or university in Minnesota. Successful applicants should be pursuing degrees in medically related curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education. Indian Health Service Scholarship Program

Indian Health programs need dedicated health and allied health professionals to fill staffing needs - people like you who envision a career with a purpose and mission, and who are willing to commit to working in Indian communities where they can truly make a difference.


Institute for Humane Studies
Deadline: December 31st

The Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University offers scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students interested in individual liberty to pursue their intellectual interests and career goals. Scholarsips of up to $12,000 and internships are available in public policy, journalism, and production.


Izaak Walton League of America; Minnesota Division
Deadline: May 15th

The Minnesota Division of the Izaak Walton League of America will award a scholarship(s) of not more than $1000.00 to assist a person(s) who enter or continue in an education program in Environmental Education, Environmental Law, Wildlife
Management, or some other conservation-oriented program.


Jackie Robinson Scholarship Program
The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $7,200 annually to minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.

You must be a U.S. citizen in order to qualify for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Award.


James Madison Graduate Fellowships

Requirements:

  • A teacher or plan to be a teacher of American History, American Government, or Social Studies at the secondary school level.

John Gyles Education Awards

John Petters Foundation

The John T. Petters Scholarship is open to undergraduate students, in good academic standing who are pursuing a study abroad program that focuses on international business (see website for deadlines and details).

LAVERNE NOYES SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: June 1st annually - (applications available online until deadline)

LaVerne Noyes established these scholarships to express his gratitude to, and in a slight degree to reward, those who ventured the supreme sacrifice of life for this country and for mankind in the war for the liberty of the world, and, also, to aid in keeping alive, for generations to come, the spirit of unselfish patriotic devotion which these men displayed and without which no free government can long endure. The LaVerne Noyes Scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to direct blood descendants of someone who has served in the U.S. Army or Navy in World War I and whose said service was terminated by death or honorable discharge.


Lavon H. Cooper Scholarship

The Lavon H. Cooper Scholarship is awarded to students who have graduated from Robbinsdale District 281 High Schools (Robbinsdale High School, Robbinsdale Cooper High School, Robbinsdale Armstrong High School) and have completed at least two years of college (entering junior, senior or graduate year). Financial need is also considered.


Lee Dubin Scholarship Fund

  • COLAGE (Children Of Lesbians And Gays Everywhere) and the Family Pride Coalition will be awarding up to five scholarships to children of LGBT parents/guardians through their collaborative Lee Dubin Scholarship Fund.

Lilly Lorenzen Scholarship

MAC Education Foundation Scholarship

Should be a Minnesota College student wishing to pursue careers relating to cooperatives. Application available in the Financial Aid Office.


Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

The mission of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships for higher education to deserving sons and daughters of Marines and children of former Marines, with particular attention being given to children whose parent was killed or wounded in action.


MG James Ursano Scholarship Fund Administered by Army Emergency Relief (AER)

Requirements:

  • Dependent children, stepchildren or legally adopted children of Army Soldiers on active duty, retired, or deceased.

Microsoft Scholarship Program
  • Microsoft scholarships are designed to encourage students to pursue studies in computer science and related technical disciplines.

Mercedes B. MacKay Memorial Scholarship - Pickup applications in the Financial Aid Deadline: August 1st for Fall semester and January 1st for Spring semester
Requirements:

  • At least one quarter American Indian.
  • Student must guarantee the Dakota Indian Foundation that they will return to the reservation to assist Indian people for at least one year upon graduation.

Minnesota High Tech Foundation

$2,000 scholarships to undergraduate students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines. Scholarships will be awarded to students from the University of Minnesota, students of MNSCU schools and students of Minnesota Private Colleges.

National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Deadline: February 28th annually

Requirements:

  • Enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student for the next academic year at an accredited, 4-year undergraduate institution.
  • 3.5 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale) or within the top 5 percent of your class.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Program

All applicants for these scholarships must be (1) legally blind and (2) pursuing or planning to pursue a fulltime, postsecondary course of study in a degree program at a United States institution.


National Scholars Honor Society

NWSA Women's Studies Student Scholarships

  • The NWSA offers multiple scholarships to women pursuing higher education. Scholarships are available to Jewish, Lesbian, and women of color on this site.

NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Scholarships
  • The NCAA awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies.

North Suburban Communications Commission Annual Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Must reside in the cities of Arden Hills, Falcon Heights , Lauderdale, Little Canada, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Oaks, Roseville, St. Anthony or Shoreview.

PFund Scholarship

Page Education Foundation Grant
Deadline: May 1

The Page Education Foundation awards annually renewable grants to Minnesota students of color who attend colleges, universities, and technical schools within the state of Minnesota. Students who accept financial aid from the Foundation are required to return to their communities and perform annual Service-to-Children projects with younger children of color. Successful candidates must demonstrate financial need, a positive attitude toward education, agree to perform an annual community service project, and attend a post-secondary institution within the state of Minnesota. Awards consist of annual grants that range in value from $1,000 to $2,500. Recipients must reapply each year they are in post-secondary school and receive subsequent grants based on their academic progress and mentoring performance.


Pfizer Epilepsy Scholarship

Philanthrofund Scholarships

Requirements:

  • Must be GLBT or from a GLBT family

The Point Foundation: A Scholarship Lifeline for LGBT Students

Public Safety Officer's Survivor Grant Program

Requirements:

  • Students must be a dependent child less than 23 years of age or the surviving spouse of a public safety officer killed in the line of duty on or after January 1, 1973.

The Roothbert Scholarship Fund
  • The Roothbert Fund was created in 1958 by Albert and Toni Roothbert to help men and women in need of financial aid to further their education. The Fund seeks candidates who are "motivated by spiritual values," and works to foster fellowship among them.

Student Inventors Scholarships

  • The Collegiate Inventors Competition seeks to stimulate excitement and interest in technology and economic leadership. It is an international competition that encourages college students to actively practice the skills of science, engineering, mathematics, technology and creative invention.

Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund

Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy Fund

• The International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE), awards numerous scholarships to transgender identified students in the helping and caring professions through its collaborative Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy Fund (TSELF) in the United States and Canada.


Two Feathers Endowment Scholarship

Applicants must be a Minnesota resident or have significant ties to a Minnesota Tribe and have proof of tribal enrollment and/or blood quantum from a federally recognized American Indian Tribe or Community.

UNCF-Cargill Scholarship
Deadline: February 28th annually, new applications are available in January

Requirements:

  • Be enrolled at a UNCF member school.
  • Be a freshman, sophomore, or junior in an appropriate major (see application for complete list).

Union Sponsored Scholarships and Aid
  • In addition to demonstrated academic ability, applicants must submit essays of no more than 500 words describing their career goals, detailing their relationship with the labor movement, and explaining why they are deserving of a union scholarship. The program is open to union members, their spouses and dependent children of unions that are participating in any Union Plus program. Individuals must be accepted into an accredited college or university, community college or recognized technical or trade school at the time the award is issued.

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships are open to high-school seniors, currently enrolled college students or incoming college students who:

  • Plan to enroll or are enrolled in full- or half-time undergraduate or full-time graduate- or professional-degree coursework at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. GED recipients also are eligible. Students must plan to enroll or be enrolled beginning with the fall-2007 term through Feb. 1, 2008.
  • If studying abroad, are attending or planning to attend a postsecondary institution that is eligible to participate in student-aid programs under Title IV of the federal Higher Education Act. 
  • Have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less, as documented on a 2006 federal 1040 income-tax return on which the applicant is claimed as a federal tax exemption.
  • Are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. Students studying in the U.S. on an F1 visa are not eligible. Eligible non-citizens must be permanent U.S. resident aliens with a Green Card, or refugees with a Departure Record (Form I-94) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services showing one of the following designations:
    • Refugee.
    • Asylum granted.
    • Alien paroled into the U.S. for at least one year.
    • Alien granted a stay of deportation due to fear of persecution on account of race, religion or political opinion.
    • Conditional entrant (if I-94 was issued before April 1980).
  • Are not currently in default on a federal education loan.

United Cerebral Palsy of Central MN

  • Must be resident of Stearns, Benton, or Sherburne County.

William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Must be able to intern for 10-12 weeks full-time during the summer at the Washington D.C. office of The Aspen Institute. All travel and housing costs must be covered by the student.

Women in Transportation Scholarship

The Sharon D. Banks Memorial Scholarship is awarded to women pursuing undergraduate studies in transportation or a related field.
