Students must be a Federal Pell Grant recipient and enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) in a degree program. The SMART Grant is based on grade level progression. An SMART3 is awarded to student with 60 – 89 credits and an SMART4 is awarded to a student with 90 plus credits and have a college cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher majoring in one of the following: physical, life, or computer science, engineering, mathematics, technology, a critical foreign language (University of Minnesota Morris does not offer a major in a “critical” foreign language) students may receive up to $4,000 each academic year.

The amount of the SMART Grant, when combined with a Pell Grant, may not exceed the student’s cost of attendance. This grant is based on sufficient federal funds from the U.S. Department of Education and the student’s enrollment status as of the Essential Deadline of each term.

For a list of National SMART Grant eligible majors, visit the U.S. Department of Education.

The Priority deadline to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the University of Minnesota, Morris to the federal processor is March 1.

Students must be enrolled for at least 12 credits to receive a full National SMART Grant.  When students are enrolled for less than 12 credits the SMART Grant will be adjusted based on the number of credits each term.
