New Instruction Librarian

Posted by Peter Bremer on Tuesday, Sep. 4, 2012

Born in Ohio Briggs Library's new Instruction Coordinator Melissa Engleman has spent most of her life in relatively balmy Kentucky before moving to Minnesota and taking a library position at UMM.

Engleman is looking forward to the snow and the challenges of her new job teaching information literacy skills.

"It's not just an intellectual thing," she said. "It has practical applications".

Besides teaching students how to search library databases and think critically Engleman will also be supervising the circulation desk and helping out at the reference desk.

Before arriving at UMM Engleman was a Research and Instruction Librarian at Murray State University in Kentucky where she taught a variety of library instruction sessions. She has a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Kentucky, Lexington and a Master of Arts in Literature from Murray State University, Kentucky.

"People have been very welcoming," she said.
