Posted by William Straub on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013

Event Date/Time: Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 8:01 am
End Date/Time: Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 1:00 pm

The outage is required in order to perform necessary maintenance, testing and repairs to facility infrastructure, and involves a complete shutdown of the main data center, resulting in interruption to IT services during that time.

The University of Minnesota Libraries, working with OIT, is planning to keep the following services available throughout this outage. Please note that some of the systems listed below as "available" during the outage will have some brief periods of unavailability, which could occur on each end of the downtime period to switch services from servers in one location to another.

Library Systems EXPECTED TO REMAIN AVAILABLE
Pounce (Limited functionality - no access to accounts)
A minimal UMM Libraries web site, with links to E-journals (A-Z)
Find It / E-Journal Finder (SFX)
Interlibrary Loan (for periodical articles but no ILL for books via Pounce). Web based ILL should be available from http://morris.umn.edu/library/services/interlibraryloan/
UMM Digital Well
Research Quickstart
As a Librarian e-mail (although we won't respond until Monday 1/7)

PLEASE NOTE: Some systems expecting to remain available may be switched over to mirror sites in the preceding the official starting time of the outage, causing some minor interruption of service. Also, this listing is subject to change.

Library Systems that WILL BE DOWN FOR THE DURATION OF THE OUTAGE:

Summon Classic
Interlibrary Loan via Pounce (web based ILL should still be up)
UMM Digital Collections - CONTENTdm (archive of historic photos)
AgEcon Search
Minneapolis Newspapers Index

University- and Campus-wide Systems

Many university-wide systems -- including PeopleSoft HR, PeopleSoft Financials (EFS), Active Directory (files), Moodle, NetFiles, etc. -- will NOT be available during the outage. However, some of considerable usefulness WILL be available, including Google Apps (GMail, Calendar, and Docs).

All impacted applications supported by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) are expected to be restored to service by noon on January 6, 2013. A complete list of affected services is available online. Regular updates also will be shared as they become available. Updates also will be available on the Data Center Operations Services website, and on the University's system status page during the service interruption period.
